REPLAY SUNDAY

Glorifying God with Many Cultures

29/7/2018

Read: Revelation 7:9-10
In the book of Revelation 7:9, Apostle John says, “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”
In the book of Revelation, we are told that in God’s time, all believers of Christ will gather together. They will worship God. There will be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language. There are about 7.5 billion people in this world. There are about 17,000 ethnic groups. In God’s time, those who have been chosen by God will worship God.

Every year at Greyfriars church, we organize a cultural day and service. On this day, we hold a special ceremony to celebrate our different cultures. We do hold a concert after the service in order to entertain and help us to understand other cultures. We are from different cultures and countries. But we have something in common. We are one in Christ. That is why we are called brothers and sisters in Christ.

After the death and the resurrection of Jesus, early believers of Christ came to meet together at the church in Jerusalem. This was the first church. These believers were diligent and sincere. However, they didn’t preach the gospel to Gentiles. The church didn’t thrive. Later, some members started going to a church in Antioch. Believers of Christ in this church came from many different countries. They understood the importance of the message of God to take the word of God to Gentiles. This church had grown with many people coming to the Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We are the church of God. The church is the body of Christ. On the last day, the people will be called to worship God in the heavenly kingdom. As the bible says, they will be from every language, nation and tribe. Of these 7.5 billion people in this world, we are told that there are about 3.1 billion people, who have never heard about the gospel. There are 41%, who are not believers of Christ. And it is our job to spread the gospel to those people, so that many more people can come to God.

Different kinds of ethnic people gather together and belong to a godly kingdom. Originally we are all descendants of Adam and Eve. Eve made from the body of Adam. Genesis 2:18 says, “I will make a helper(rעֵ֖זֶר)..” The word helper comes from the Hebrew word, ezer. It originally means humans are made on an equal basis. They are not separate. They are united in one body. Thus they are to help each other as God said.

Since this time, humans have spread across the world into many different cultures. Within this humanity, our Godly family has spread through our Lord Jesus Christ. As we know, the church began with the believers of Jesus. The family of God is known as the Ezer community. Thus if something goes wrong, it is not the fault of one person. It is the fault and responsibility of every person in the church. As we know, the church is the body of Christ. And, we are united into one body.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13: “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” That is why we are here many cultures in this space, in this church with each other. We acknowledge that we have become one in Christ. We unite in Christ. We have gathered here to worship God. The book of Revelation tells us that in the time of God we will worship together with many cultures.

For reflection
How can we glorify God with many cultures?
