Prayer is one of the wonderful gifts God has given us. From ancient times the church has spoken of prayer as a means of grace, that is a way in which God blesses, sustains and enriches us spiritually. Prayer is the means by which we open our hearts to God and draw near to his heart. It allows us to deepen our relationship with God, grow nearer to God and to have a better understanding of God’s will.
Prayer changes us as we humble ourselves and speak to God about the things that matter in our lives. Prayer moves us from telling God what we want to listening to what he wants. Prayer opens us to the spiritual dimension of life and allows us to exercise our souls. Prayer can bring peace to the deep places of our lives and strengthen us with the deep assurance of faith.
Greyfriars is a praying church. Prayer is foundational to everything we do. We begin our year with a day of prayer and follow with seasons of prayer as the year goes by. We have weekly prayer meetings, encourage our growth groups to pray and we keep prayer as an important part of our worship services. We invite you to join us for prayer.

Start of the year
At the beginning of each year we hold our Prayer Morning, where we invite our church family to set aside thirty minutes between 8am and 12pm to pray for the life of our church. We meet in the library at Mt Eden. We can choose to spend the time alone in prayer or arrange to come with friends (perhaps our home group). We may pray as we wish or we can use the prayer resources which are provided. In prayer we take the hand of God asking him to lead us into the year ahead. In prayer we listen for his guidance. In prayer we invite the Holy Spirit to inspire and empower us. “Before a church can stand and walk, it must first get on its knees.” |
Tuesdays throughout the year
12.30pm-1pm, Macpherson Room at Mt Eden We start and end promptly so those who have come from work are able to fit prayer into their lunch hour. Tea and coffee is provided. We pray specifically for the life of our church, inviting God to bless and lead us. There are many good ministries, meetings and events in our church and we want to cover them with prayer. Please come along and join us as we pray for our church! |
