I wonder if you are interested in your family tree. Many people take an interest in this and can trace back generations of who married who, what they did, and occasionally identify a scallywag who found notoriety in their day. Family trees, whakapapa or genealogies help to place us in history, to place us in relation to others. When we become Christians and become part of God’s family we become part of another family tree. In a way, God’s family tree is the tree of life.
I am amazed at God’s love for us! God’s love is the heartbeat of heaven. It is the steady beat, the rhythm of the kingdom of God. God is enthroned on high and worthy of all praise. Even so, God reaches out to us in our lowly state and lifts us to call us his children. God does this for us as we put our faith in Jesus. The Apostle John in his letter to the church wrote, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1) I am moved by the truth John reveals saying God’s love has been lavished on us. Then he states very clearly, we are God’s children and adds emphasis saying, And that is what we are! Take that thought to heart, let it echo in every corner of your being and minister to your soul! Children of God – that is what we are!
