Study Notes
As a believer of God, I believe love is the most valuable thing in this world. Because of God’s love, we are able to breathe, live, and survive. According to the bible, humans are supposed to die because of their sins, but they are saved through Christ. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believers in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Thanks to the death of Jesus, we will not die but are given eternal life.

Love is the most important commandment in the bible. One day a man asked Jesus what the most important of God’s laws. Jesus said in Matthew 22:37-40, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” As our Lord says, love is the most important commandment, so God’s children are to make their best efforts to love God and his people with all of their hearts, souls and minds.

The reason why we are to live in this world is because we are here to love our God and his people, who are brothers and sisters in Christ. When we read the bible carefully, we find that the main theme is love. The bible contains the love of God and explains how God’s love has permeated to his people. The main theme of Christianity is also love. We are taught how God has loved us and how his believers are commanded to share God’s love with others.

Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:13, “faith, hope and love… the greatest of these is love(NIV).”  As you know, Paul was one of the great disciples and evangelists in the bible. He clearly says that love is the greatest commandment. 2000 years later we still need to recognize and understand God’s love, because it can change everything.

1.God’s love is Agape
In John 21:15 and 16, Jesus said, “do you truly love me?” The word used Agape (αγάπη) in Greek. This word is known as a godly love. It is unconditional love. God gave everything to his people without conditions. God gave his love free of charge. Agape is also sacrificial love. He sent his son Jesus to be sacrificed for his people.
Peter said to Jesus, “you know that I love you.” Peter used Philo(φιλῶ), the Greek word for love. In the third question, Jesus also used the word, Philo. The word means human love, known as conditional love. It is normally used between human beings. Human beings want something back for their deeds. I wonder is it possible for us to give godly love Agape to others?

2. Feed my sheep (looking after believers of Christ)
Jesus said, “feed my sheep.” Jesus told Peter that disciples of Christ were to look after believers of Christ. Looking after others is as one of the significant ministries for believers of God.

3. Follow me (Jesus)
Learn from the people of Israel. God gave everything to them and commanded them to obey him and follow his commandment. However, they did not depend upon God and did not follow him. The result was that they lost their track. They became failures. They had no idea of what to do and where to go. Following Jesus means we are to obey God and follow all of his laws and commandments in the bible. Otherwise, we might be going astray and be a failure in this world. In our daily lives, we are to give everything to God.
