I have two Lego pieces, a wheel and an axle. The wheel is pretty useless on its own, you can’t do much with it. The same with the axle, it is very different, but on its own it is still useless. If you put them together you get a nice wheel that can spin.
1 Corinthians 12:17-19 says: If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
If you put many more different pieces of lego together with the wheel and axle, you can make something pretty cool, like a stagecoach. I wouldn’t have been able to make the stagecoach if the pieces weren’t all different and unique.
If Ruben hadn’t been here to make the castle, the king wouldn’t have a home. The town would be in disarray with the lack of leadership. If Debora hadn’t made the stables, then there wouldn’t be a place to keep the horses, feed them and care for them. If I hadn’t been here to make the store, the people of the town wouldn’t have a place to buy their food and equipment.
God made us with different talents, ideas and abilities. That is what the verse in Corinthians is trying to tell us. For the stagecoach, all pieces are needed to make it work. In the wild west town and during our play time, Ruben, Debora and I had to work together to make this well functioning Lego town. Each piece of the stage coach and each person that worked on parts of the town, is unique. We all need to work together to contribute to the one whole body.
