The simplest definition of Christianity is that 'Christianity is Christ.' Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, through whom you can have a vital experience of God.
God created the universe and human beings. He made us responsible for its welfare and with a capacity for a personal relationship with himself.
When we human beings abused that trust, damaging the world and one another by our evil attitudes and actions, God did not abandon his commitment to humanity, but sent his Son Jesus Christ to be the appointed leader and Saviour of the world. (The Hebrew word 'Messiah' and Greek word 'Christ' simply mean 'appointed leader').
Christians believe that Jesus fully reveals who God is and what God is like. The Bible describes how Jesus made himself responsible for the wrongs of others, was unjustly put to death by crucifixion, and rose from death on the third day after his execution.
Christians not only believe that there is solid historical evidence for the truth of the Bible's account of what Jesus did, but also believe that by his death Jesus atones for the world's wrong, and through his resurrection offers us eternal life.
Christianity is therefore a message of personal transformation or salvation. It is the opposite of fatalism. Through personal faith in Jesus Christ your life, however hopeless, wicked or depraved, can be changed. By believing in Jesus Christ, you can be saved.
If you ask, in Jesus' name, for God to forgive you for the wrongs you have committed, you can experience the joy of being forgiven and be freed from your guilt or shame. If you invite Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Saviour, you can enter now into what Jesus called 'eternal life', which is both a living hope beyond death, and an abundant life here and now.
Through faith in Jesus Christ, your destiny as a human being is transformed from a meaninglessness glitch in a cosmic immensity, to a purposeful place in meaningful cosmos. A creature of splendour, you are invited to share in the very life of God, your Creator, for ever and ever.
That is why Christianity is properly called 'The greatest story ever told.'
