The Greyfriars 9.00 am service aims to provide a more liturgically-oriented service of about one hour's duration, focusing on the exposition of Scripture and a blend of psalms, hymns, biblical paraphrases, songs and choral items played on classical instruments. In this way Greyfriars seeks to keep alive the great heritage of Christian faith, spirituality and worship in a postmodern society where many people's experience of God has become shallow or superficial. There is no children's programme.
The Greyfriars 10.30 a.m. service is a warm, family-oriented occasion, one and a half hours in length. Its musical style, supported by an energetic choir, is led by a worship band. The repertoire includes mainly contemporary songs, with occasional contemporary renditions of traditional hymns. With an emphasis on all-age worship, children are welcome, and there is a creche. There is a family learning time before the children leave for their educational programme. They rejoin the service after a biblical or topical message for the adults, to take part in the conclusion of the service.
