Throughout 2003 and 2004, Rob Yule preached a series of sermons on the early chapters of the book of Acts, which describes the origin and expansion of the early Christian movement. In a wide-ranging and fascinating series, Rob emphasizes the central role of the Holy Spirit in the early church's dynamic life and spectacular growth, and challenges us to rely more on the Holy Spirit in the life and mission of our churches today.
1 - The Acts of the Holy Spirit
6 - The Challenge of Conversion
When Rob Yule became minister at Greyfriars at the beginning of 2003, he gave four sermons setting out his understanding of the special character of Greyfriars and sharing his vision for its future development. In two later messages he outlined the significant contribution made by three earlier Greyfriars ministers to our understanding of family life and the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.
6 - A Pioneer of the Holy Spirit
At the beginning of 2005 Greyfriars Church took part in the 'Forty Days of Purpose' Programme developed by the Saddleback Community Church, Lake Forest, California. During this special event, which involved personal study of Rick Warren's award-winning book The Purpose-Driven Life, Rob Yule preached a series of sermons on the purpose and meaning of our life here on earth.
8 - Clarifying My Life Purpose
When Greyfriars started its Classical Service in mid-2006, Rob Yule gave a series of sermons on the first letter of John in the New Testament. John's letter was written to counter an early form of New Age thought called Gnosticism - a set of beliefs in which people thought of themselves as possessing a superior knowledge of God, but lived morally permissive lives. This led the elderly apostle John, writing late in the first century, to pen a simple outline of what Christians believe.
Paul's letter to the Romans, written in the style of the Hellenistic letter-essay, is the longest and most influential letter in the New Testament. It sets out Paul's mature mission theology, focussing on the Christian message as 'God's powerful way of saving all people who have faith', and dealing with the fraught relationship of Jews and Gentiles in God's purposes. Rob Yule shows its continuing relevance to what we believe and how we live today.
